December 1, 2026–February 28, 2027. A Ventura winter of coastal walks, harbor lights, good meals, and time to settle in.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF WINTER
Trade the snow boots for a walk by the water.
If you are arriving from a colder part of the country, make room for a different winter routine: coffee before a beach walk, an afternoon downtown, and dinner with somewhere good to go afterward.
Ventura is a coastal escape, with cool evenings and room for a slower pace. Bring layers and a rain jacket, and let the forecast help shape each day. This is a season for enjoying the ocean from shore as much as planning time on it.

THE WINTER ROUTINE
A little ocean. A little city.
Begin in Pierpont with an unhurried walk beside the Pacific. Pick your route to suit the conditions and leave time to come back for breakfast. A beach neighborhood works especially well when a walk and a relaxed meal are the main plan.
For a different afternoon, head downtown for shops, a museum visit, or Mission Basilica San Buenaventura. Keep a garden visit for a day when the weather and paths suit your group. Choose one main outing rather than moving between every neighborhood before lunch.
The published 2026 program lists decorated boats and fireworks on two evenings, from 6:30–8 p.m. Plan your meal and parking around the event, and check the latest schedule before leaving.
Some outings deserve a place in your plans even when they take you beyond Ventura. Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard has its own Christmas boat parade, a week before Ventura Harbor’s celebration. They are separate harbors, with different routes and arrival plans.
For December 12, plan an Oxnard afternoon and a meal before finding your viewing spot. For December 18 or 19, stay with the Ventura Harbor plan above. Check the organizer’s current route and parking information; a waterfront restaurant reservation does not by itself guarantee a parade view.
Make a daytime outing of tamales, music, and holiday browsing. The City lists the festival from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with free admission, food and craft vendors, and children’s activities. Budget separately for food and purchases.
The harbor lists its “Aloha Afloat” boat parade from 7–9 p.m. Expect a tropical holiday theme on the water. Bring an evening layer and allow time to park and find a viewing spot before the boats arrive.
If a holiday run is part of your ideal getaway, the organizer lists December 13 for the 2026 event. Check your chosen distance, start location, packet pickup, parking, and registration directly with the race. Spectators should also plan around the published course.
The National Park Service identifies mid- to late December through mid-March as a common gray-whale viewing period around the Channel Islands. It is a reason to consider a winter boat outing, with sightings and departures dependent on wildlife and conditions.
Check the operator’s actual winter schedule, departure address, and cancellation terms. Treat a whale-watch cruise and an island landing as different trips. Keep a mainland alternative available if the weather changes.
Café Nouveau and Café Zack are two of our Ventura favorites. Give a meal its own place in the day: browse the menus, choose the setting that fits your group, and confirm hours around holidays. Café Zack takes reservations by phone at 805.643.9445.
For a night out, pair dinner with a performance at The Grape, Ventura Music Hall, or the Majestic Ventura Theater. Look at the actual show’s seating, age rules, and timing before reserving dinner. A winter visit does not need a packed calendar to feel like a getaway.
For January and February 2027, build your own rhythm around neighborhood mornings, a harbor afternoon, and a downtown evening. For a couples’ visit, reserve a dinner you care about and leave a walk flexible. For a family stay, choose one main outing and keep an indoor alternative nearby.
On a wet day, start with the Museum of Ventura County’s current exhibitions, then make time for a long lunch. Check opening days before heading out. For beach and boating plans, review current conditions: winter storms can affect the day, and island weather deserves its own check.
Arrival evening: Settle into your stay and keep dinner easy. A short neighborhood walk can be enough after a travel day.
Your full day: Start beside the beach, then choose downtown Ventura or an Oxnard event that matches your actual dates. If you have parade tickets or restaurant reservations, leave the rest of the afternoon light.
One more morning: Make time for coffee and a final look at the ocean. On a longer stay, give whale watching or an island outing its own day and keep a flexible alternative.
For a New Year or February couples’ trip, reserve the meal or performance that matters to you and let the other hours unfold. We will add specific January and February events when their organizers publish confirmed details.
Make room for the museum, the Mission, and the hillside gardens.
